When you become familiar with your own DISC profile and those of your colleagues, you will be able to
modify your actions and behavior to achieve better results.
What I need to remember about my D Style and work-related preferences:
• I prefer a hands-off manager.
• I like to be in charge of projects.
• I enjoy a fast-paced work environment.
What I need to keep in mind about my communication style:
• I prefer to be direct and to the point.
• I like to get to the point quickly.
• I’m not afraid to ask tough questions.
I should also remember these preferences when working with other people who show a strong Dominance
(D) preference. Keep in mind that while two or more D-style people can feed off of each other’s energy and
are able to get lots of work done fast, I should also be aware that conflicts can escalate quickly and proj-
ects can take off before the details have been thought through.
When I work with or communicate with colleagues who have a strong Influence (I) preference, I need to
remember:
• Connect with them on a personal level before getting to the point.
• Their social, outgoing demeanor will balance my sometime abrasive one.
• Their organizational skills will be important for the projects we work on together.
When I work with or communicate with colleagues who have a strong Steadiness (S) preference, I need to
remember:
• Tone it down! Bring all my gentleness to the conversation.
• They care about our colleague’s feeling more than I ever will.
• When working on a project, they can be relied upon.
When I work with or communicate with colleagues who have a strong Conscientiousness (C) preference, I
need to remember:
• Site the facts, not my opinion.
• They prioritize accuracy over speed.
• When planning a project, they will pay attention to the details.
